5 Flowers to give to Valentine's Day

Flowers with love

When you want to make a romantic gift with flowers you always go without fail! Their perfume and their elegance are perfect messengers of our love. Of course many opt for a composition of cut flowers, always up-to-date and of great impact: the most requested have protagonists of roses, red like passion! However, they have the disadvantage of not lasting long: even with the best care they lose their splendor in about ten days and then they just have to throw them away !. Those who want a more lasting "gift" can then bet on stabilized flowers. Beautiful alternatives then are dry compositions or potted plants. Above all, the latter are increasingly appreciated because, with a minimum of care, they return year after year to remind us of the good times we spent together on the day of lovers!

Rose

It is the queen of flowers and symbolizes romantic love! The obvious choice is to give them a bouquet or opt for the stabilized version. If our partner is a lover of greenery, and has a garden or even a balcony, we can also bet on a plant. The options are many: those who want to impress immediately can donate a miniature rose. The most beautiful on the market are those with corollas with a "romantic" shape, resistant and re-flowering. These are naturally forced specimens: we keep ours in the house in a bright area. When spring arrives we can gradually move it outside: it will return to produce buds. For true lovers of greenery, a prized, bare-rooted specimen may be a welcome gift, to be planted immediately and see it bloom in spring.

Orchids

Another great classic! The most widespread, simple to maintain and make flourish, are undoubtedly the phalaenopsis. On the market they can be found in different sizes (from tiny to very large) and in different colors: they adapt to every location! They require only a very bright environment (without direct light), regular irrigations (when the roots become silvery) and liquid fertilizations in good weather. We choose a beautiful specimen with many stems!
For those who want something more original the options are many: among those of simple cultivation we mention the dendrobium nobile (often fragrant), the dendrobium phalaenopsis, the vanda (in splendid fuchsia and violet shades). If our partner has some experience we can instead opt for a cymbidium or a cattleya.

Camellia

Fascinating and easy to find flowering shrub in this period! In oriental culture it is considered the symbol of eternal devotion among lovers: perfect then as a romantic gift! Depending on our economic availability we can choose a small specimen or one already developed and of great impact. The corollas are available in many colors: from the elegant pure white, to the passionate red, to the romantic rose ... the most original can point to the variegated petals.
Once at home, let's keep it outside, in a sheltered but well-lit area. Let us remember to always water it with demineralized water and to use soil for acidophilic. If you have a garden, you can also put it in the ground, making sure that the substrate and exposure are suitable.

Bulbs in a vase

Small or large bulbous compositions are found almost everywhere in this period. They are delicious because they bring joy announcing the arrival of spring. Their sweet and persistent perfume will certainly not fail to remember our love for our suitor!
The essences to choose from are many: usually the compositions combine small and delicate flowers (such as muscari, snowdrops and crocuses) with others of great development and impact (tulips, hyacinths, daffodils).
Once at home we choose a well-lit location for them, far from heat sources: they will last a long time! Once wilted, the stems wait for the leaves to dry completely: we can then put the bulbs back in a cool place to put them back down again, possibly in the middle of the earth, in autumn.

5 Flowers to give to Valentine's Day: Anthurium

With its shiny, red, heart-shaped spits, this houseplant is the ideal gift for our partner! There are specimens of all sizes in nurseries and supermarkets: it is therefore really affordable for everyone. At home it is good to keep it in a very bright room, but without direct light, with temperatures always above 20 ° C. The rate of environmental humidity is fundamental to its health: therefore it lives well in the bathroom or in the kitchen, provided they are well exposed. If we want to keep it in good shape, let's not forget to spray the leaves at least twice a day; then water with demineralized water, always keeping the substrate cool (but not wet). In the warm season, fortnightly fertilizations will stimulate the production of new spates.
