What is the trimmer wire used for?


The brushcutter is an increasingly widespread mechanical device in our gardens as a gardening tool. However, the machine has little-known aspects or drawbacks: among them, we find the wire replacement. In fact, this must be replaced every time wear has consumed it. Sometimes, however, it also breaks too often compared to the average, because the soil is characterized by a stony surface and by hard and infesting grasses (thistles or asphodels). Furthermore, the wire breaks much more frequently if it is rasped too much towards the ground. In fact, the trimmer is used to cut the grass: if you use it on the ground, the wire wears out quickly. However, substitution is a fundamental operation and is based on a few simple steps.

How to replace the wire from the head



To replace the trimmer wire it is not necessary to be a machine expert, it is enough to know this and its parts sufficiently. First of all, the lower part of the head must be removed to be able to remove the thread spool inside it. So it is necessary to take the new nylon thread, cutting a length of seven or eight meters at most (if it is longer it will be difficult to make it exit automatically from the head). Once cut, it is necessary to take its two ends to be able to fold the thread in half: in this way you will have two threads, each about four meters long, joined through one of the two sides. At this point, you must take the thread in the part where its two sides are joined, while with the other hand you must take the spool on which to wrap the thread.

How to wrap the thread on the spool



The spool is composed of two different parts (the upper and the lower): the two sections are separated from each other by a divider. The partition, in turn, is characterized by a slot, in which the central part of the wire must be hooked in order to be able to collect it in the spool. You must wrap it by turning it counterclockwise, paying attention to the fact that the two wires go one in the upper part of the partition and the other in the lower part. Once it has all wrapped around the spool, the two ends must be inserted inside the two holes of the spool pin. Finally, the trimmer head must be closed, fitting the lower part (with the spool inside) with the upper part. In this way, the wire is replaced and the device is ready to be used.

Brush cutter wire: The different models



Nylon is the first synthetic fiber on the market, made up of polyamide molecules. Wires of this material are commonly used in brushcutters: fuel consumption and engine power are directly proportional to the shape of the wire. The lower the value, the lower the resistance of the air particles to the collision with the wire. For the realization is used nylon with extremely resistant polyamide molecules: they are synthesized from macromolecules that contain the amide group. It is a wire with high resistance to breakage, deformation and abrasion and is easy to maintain. There are different models: pentagonal, curved, square, etc. There is also a "silenced" version, which, thanks to its spiral shape (twisted), allows a 20% noise reduction.
